I was out this morning doing some errands, as I do many mornings. When I was at Woodman's, I thought that it's about time for an oil change. They have a gas station with an oil change service. So when I dropped off my car, I went into the gas station where they have snacks and other goodies, like most gas stations.
I wanted to see if I could find anything "good" to eat in the whole place. First of all, skip the candy. Nothing good there. Certainly, nothing healthy for you. Maybe there will be a healthy choice in the chips department. The only thing remotely healthy was popcorn. It happened to be "white cheddar popcorn". How about it? Isn't that good for you? NO! Stay away from it! The sodium alone was 420 mg per serving.
I remember, a couple of years ago I bought a bag of Smartfood White Cheddar Popcorn. That was the brand name... Smartfood. It tasted good. I kept eating it, thinking it was pretty healthy. Several minutes went by, when all of a sudden I felt something weird going on with my heart. I stopped eating it and did a little research. The sodium was at a high level and the nutritional value was low. Even the calories were too high. That's when I decided to eat even better than I had been. Not only for me, but also for my family. I couldn't believe how much salt we had been eating. Don't get me wrong, we were eating less salt than the norm, but still, too much! Eating too much salt is very bad for you, health wise, and can kill you.
It is estimated that 75% of people worldwide are consuming too much salt. In 2010, It was estimated that over 2 million people died due to eating too much salt. If you could do two things to turn your health around, it would be cut down on the salt and start drinking a lot of water. Just doing those things will improve your health drastically. You also have to cut way down on sugar. For your sake and for the sake of your family... just do it!
