Home Health
Health starts at home... When you see Mom and Dad making unhealthy choices in their lives it stands to reason that those unhealthy choices will most likely reflect in the lives of their children as well. That's why, when Dad began his new family, some of the first things that he implemented were healthy guidelines for what would - and would not - be allowed in his house.
The rules were fairly simple... Nothing artificial or unnatural. No white flour - only 100% whole grains. No sugar or artificial sweeteners of any kind - only honey. LOTS of fresh fruits and vegetables. And absolutely NO candy! It seems like that last one was the most difficult for people to grasp sometimes. No candy?! None at all?! The truth of the matter is we had no desire for it whatsoever. Though this may seem like a stretch of the truth, it is not at all. We would even look at things in the "food" aisles of grocery stores and wonder, "Who in the world would eat that?!" Because, to our minds (and bodies!), candy and other such related items were like foreign substances. The reason that many children jump at the chance to have candy is because they have eaten it from a young age and have acquired a taste for it. They consider it a treat and something to be highly valued because of the restrictions usually associated with these things. Again, children learn from what Mom and Dad do. Another thing most people do not understand is that eating healthy does not mean that you cannot have any sweets, desserts, or other good-tasting things. We always ate very well at our house - Just ask any one of us! For more info on "eating matters" click here. Fruits and vegetables are THE main part of our diet! Yum!
