New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve is one of the most-looked-forward-to days of the year. And that's because Dad always makes it special with his food genius and creativity. Days - and sometimes weeks - before, he will start preparing for the BIG evening by going shopping at all the local grocery stores, looking for the best deals on all the things he needs for the feast he has planned (a lot of this goes for the following day - New Year's Day - as well).
On New Year's Eve, the younger kids usually stay up just a bit and watch a favorite movie. The older ones, however stay up till the New Year has been rung in, and usually a few hours afterwards besides. We watch movie classics (usually ones more on the humorous side) and sample all the good things that Dad has prepared. Usually, he will make some of his famous pizza, which is nothing like pizza you get at a restaurant or store. He adds toppings that most people would probably never even think of and, boy, are they delicious! And, of course, we celebrate with a little wine and champagne (and sparkling grape or apple juice for those not of age). Mainly, we just have fun and enjoy each other's company - playing games or talking and laughing. And looking forward to... New Year's Day!
